Looking Towards the Future

Impact Missions, Inc. has announced the first big step towards combining their ministries onto a 20 acre campus in Southaven. “We have anxiously waited this day for the past six years,” Dr. David Donaldson said. “It reminds me of a passage from God’s word. ‘And you, having received the promise, are now in need of patience.’

This first step towards consolidation requires the former Desoto Sunrise Homes for Girls in Hernando to be sold at auction. The house is a two story manor, with six bedrooms, five baths, and a basement apartment totaling over 5,142 square feet.

Since 1980, the facility has been home to hundreds of girls. “This is a bitter sweet time for us,” Donaldson added. “The girl’s home is the oldest charitable facility that I know of in Desoto County and it has been a blessing to so many people. It was a difficult, but necessary decision. I had to remind myself that the ministry has never been about a brick building, it is about the children’s lives that have been blessed because of this community’s gracious support.”

The girl’s home will be relocated to a temporary site in Hernando, and it will continue to operate as a licensed group home for at risk teenage girls. “These homes are an intricate part of the community’s heritage. Everyone that ever donated, volunteered, or worked serving this ministry can take pride in that, through all of our combined efforts, this new vision for ministry is now on the horizon.”

The proceeds from the sale will be used to lower the ministry debt, and begin architectural and site development preparations for the new campus. “The new campus will focus on crisis intervention services for the Mid-South,” Donaldson added. “This will include the crisis care shelter, counseling center, and a home for at risk teenage boys.”

It is expected to take at least one year for the first phase of the new campus to be completed. Current plans include a timeline that would have the girl’s home relocating to the Southaven campus sometime in the summer of 2011.

The girl’s home property, located on 165 Labauve Street in Hernando, will be auctioned on June 25, 2010; at 6:00pm. Anyone interested in attending the open house prior to the sale or for more information, please call 662-253-0232.
